Single-user or reusable? How to choose the right NEWSOUL model

NEWSOUL ONE and NEWSOUL REUSE are two separate use systems. This guide walks through which model to consider based on your laundry infrastructure, textile circulation and evidence needs, and which document to ask for with each model.

The problem: the same textile, two different operations

On a hospital ward, in a hotel corridor or at a temporary shelter, a textile decision is not only about fabric. The real question is operational: will the textile circulate between users? Does the organisation run a controlled laundry cycle? Which waste stream will the product enter when use ends? The answers vary from one organisation to another, and even between departments of the same organisation.

That is why NEWSOUL does not try to stretch one product to fit every situation. It offers two separate use systems: NEWSOUL ONE and NEWSOUL REUSE. The right choice starts with defining your own conditions of use, before you open the product catalogue.

The frame: single-user is not the same as single-use

The two terms are often confused. "Single-user" means the product is allocated to one person and does not circulate between users. "Single-use" suggests a product that is used once and thrown away. NEWSOUL uses the first term in its brand language. Where a regulation or a waste classification requires the term "single-use" in technical documents, it is written there explicitly; marketing language does not replace it.

The second basic distinction: ONE and REUSE are not two options of the same product. They are separate products, with separate instructions for use and separate evidence files. A property or test result that belongs to one is never carried over to the other.

NEWSOUL ONE: for settings where textiles should not circulate

NEWSOUL ONE is the single-user, wash-free use model. It comes to the fore when:

  • laundry infrastructure is limited or absent;

  • textiles should not circulate between users;

  • fast distribution and allocation to one person matter, for example during the first response at communal living sites.

For ONE products, the period of use is not given as a general promise. It is stated per SKU in the product instructions and confirmed with the product at the sample stage. Which waste stream the product enters at the end of use should also be planned from the start; this depends on the setting of use and on local regulations.

NEWSOUL REUSE: for organisations with a controlled laundry cycle

NEWSOUL REUSE is the reusable model. It is intended for hospitals, hotels and industrial sites that run a controlled laundry cycle.

When choosing REUSE, the question does not stop at "how many washes?". What matters is the conditions under which durability was verified:

  • wash temperature and programme;

  • the detergent used;

  • the drying method;

  • dimension, strength and performance measurements after the stated cycles.

This information is provided per product with the test report. If your own laundry conditions differ from those in the report, how far the results carry over to your cycle should be assessed separately.

Five questions before you decide

Before choosing a model, answer these questions with your team:

  1. Can the textile circulate between users, or must it be allocated to one person?

  2. Does the organisation have a controlled laundry cycle, or is laundry outsourced or not possible at all?

  3. How will storage and distribution work, and how will products reach the point of use?

  4. Which waste stream will the product enter at the end of use, and is there a contamination risk?

  5. Which documents do your purchasing, quality and sustainability teams need to see?

The answers to the first two questions usually set the direction. The last three show whether the chosen model is actually workable on site.

Can one organisation use both models?

Yes. The choice can be made per area rather than per organisation. A hotel can consider ONE products to offer guests a wash-free option, and REUSE products in areas with a controlled laundry cycle. In communal living and disaster scenarios, ONE can be considered for first response and REUSE for long-term, controlled use. What matters is that each area clearly records which model it uses, and that the instructions of the two models are never mixed up.

Evidence: which document for which model?

Each model is assessed on its own evidence:

  • NEWSOUL ONE: the period and conditions of use in the product instructions, use verification and an end-of-life plan.

  • NEWSOUL REUSE: a test report covering the wash conditions and the post-cycle dimension, strength and performance results.

Environmental data (carbon, water, life cycle) is only meaningful when it is clear which product, which functional unit and which system boundary it belongs to. That is why NEWSOUL does not present these values as a general figure until the product match is complete.

The limit: what this guide does not say

This article is a framework for choosing a model. It is not a statement of the period of use, the number of washes or the regulatory conformity of any particular product. Product properties, dimensions and documents are confirmed per product at the sample and quotation stage. Uses that fall under medical device or personal protective equipment rules also depend on the product class and on completed conformity.
